Psychedelic Perch

Made a day of it offshore grinding through kelp after kelp accumulating nice grade yellowtails along the way. Not much wind and a little bit of swell combined for decent looking conditions that the boys certainly put to the best use possible. Fourteen hours on the mast in the glasses and on the wheelhouse roof earns the A for effort regardless of outcome. In the end the last kelp of the day was the best providing plenty of catch up opportunities for angler’s across the board. Bottom of the ninth with two outs. Whew. Perfectly timed.

Early in the day, in fact the first stop, provided everyone with a rare opportunity to see a beautiful Opah that was wrangled in during an “ultimate challenge” class contest between man, gear, and fish. Huge rigging kudos to Royal Star angler Ron Humpfries whose knots and connections defied odds contributing huge to the triumph over his jumbo, 147# Opah. What an incredible achievement. One that for certain easily earns “fish of a lifetime” status. Congratulations to Ron and the boys all of whom played a key role in this amazing outcome. Well done!
