A beautiful morning of leisurely travel over a flat calm sea arriving at our chosen destination just after noon. Amidst scenery virtually unchanged for eons the coastal variety action started slowly then ramped up as we gathered the lay of the land. While not the cornerstone of long range fishing every angler l know, including yours truly, covets the opportunity to fish for the often voracious Calico Bass found in these zones. In that respect the afternoon delivered big as we caught and released hefty two to five pound bass to our hearts content. Between the epic surface show, weather, and scenery a good time was had by all.

On the exotic end I have to report that we definitely fell short. And surprisingly so. Fine conditions, abundant bait, and tons of what should have been productive zones were found. But no chrome and no big halibut were in the cards. On to the next zone. Our final full day is upon us tomorrow as we continue the northerly trek stretching out our fishing time. Today’s image features yet another Royal Star veteran, friend, and favorite Randall Yee with a beautiful grade Yellowfin tuna landed on the fly lined sardine.
