Nice start

An abundance of fish greeted the twenty anglers on board this annual four day run. Schools of Bluefin showed themselves all afternoon and evening priming desire to test out the vast array of equipment assembled for battle. Consistent with the recent pattern daytime bites were tough to come by. Schools lounging on the surface and milling along would simply keep pace with the boat as we worked to entice them or sink out then arise again a few hundred yards away clearly visible from our position. Taking the snubs in stride we knew that darkness, the biggest game changer of the twenty first century in the offshore bluefin fishery, was likely to even the odds. And it did. Though not in the proportion one would predict based on the images projected on the electronics we definitely had our shots. 50-70 pounders were the prize tonight.
Perfect in all respects every one that came aboard was meticulously cared for then placed in our 30 degree Fahrenheit RSW tank producing the finest product known in the San Diego recreational fishing fleet. A good start under our belts we’ll be plying the offshore waters again tomorrow looking to expand on the good fortune in beautiful working weather.
Today’s image features the moment anglers dream of grabbed from the previous voyage. Got ‘em!
